Kristina Gasperas {an award-winning makeup artist}

Monday 18th May, 2015

Kristina loves quirky Italian restaurant in Richmond where she lives with her husband and son, shops in Covent Garden and lets her hair down at Chelsea’s Bunga Bunga.

Eating out

One of my favourite’s restaurants is trendy Japanese hot-spot Zuma in Knightsbridge. One of the best Italian pizzas you can find is at Rossopomodoro in Covent Garden. For a fab party atmosphere and also great food, Bunga Bunga in Chelsea is a great place to rock‘n‘roll with a group of friends.

I’m not really loyal to any particular shop, but when I need to update my wardrobe I am most likely to head to Zadig & Voltaire and Comptoir des Cotonniers. Most of my shoes and boots are from Ash in Covent Garden. My favourite fitness clothing store is Sweaty Betty and for gifts and more specialised shopping trips I go to Harvey Nichols or House of Fraser.

Best for a first date

I think it’s safest to choose a cool bar where there is a lively atmosphere and should things be a bit nervy at first you can at least do a bit of people watching and not have to deal with uneasy silences. Zuma has an awesome bar as does the 5th floor of Harvey Nicks.

Great British pub

The Orange in Chelsea. A really great atmosphere and good food. Buzzing. Fab people and a great place to catch up with friends for Sunday brunch. If we’re talking local to my home I like The Victoria in East Sheen. Charming. And if you have kids and fancy an afternoon pint then The White Horse which is semi-hidden in The Alberts part of Richmond and next to a big playground.

On the bookshelf

The last book I read was The Walls of Byzantium (The Mistra Chronicles) by James Heneage. An epic bit of ancient history with tales of empires rising and falling. Pretty gripping stuff.

I wish I had more time to watch movies. Some of those that stand out for me are The Notebook, Sunrise, The Great Gatsby and riot that is The Wolf of Wall Street

I love Mumford & Sons, Lindsey Stirling and Milky Chance.

Perfect time out

A family tennis session or a bike ride around Richmond Park on a warm summer’s afternoon followed by a lovely meal at one of our favourite local restaurants whilst having long conversation and a perfectly assembled Aperol Spritz.

Guilty pleasures

Spontaneous shopping and buying too many things then regretting spending too much money in one go.

During the day it’s Jo Malone White Jasmine and Mint and for nights out Tom Ford Velvet Orchid.

Best piece of advice I've ever received

Not to give up when the going gets tough because success may only be around the next corner.

A romance to remember

I am very lucky to have a romantic husband who knows that romance is very important to me. It’s hard to pick one particular moment… perhaps our first snowboarding trip together at the very start of our relationship. Every moment was filled with romance, attention and tenderness and the snowy slopes were just perfect for our new love.

Best compliment I've ever been given

Winning The Wedding Industry Awards 2013 National Award for Best Makeup Artist, this was voted for by my brides. That was the biggest and most appreciated compliment ever.

I’d go out to dinner with

Pat McGrath who is a global super-makeup artist. I’d love to find out what she keeps in all 30 of her makeup-filled suitcases and brain-storm some incredible styles with her.

To an afternoon tea I’d like to invite

Victoria Beckham. I’d like to see her enjoy a nice cream-filled scone and give me a hearty smile as she tells me all about her success story.

As a Mayor of London

I’d work on increasing safety in London and also reward NHS staff for all the hard and amazing work that they do.

I always aim to do unto others as I would wish others to do unto me.

Little black book

♦ The number of a small, quirky Italian restaurant in Richmond unlike any other – al Boccon di’Vino – no menu, no price list, no wine list. Go with an open mind and an empty stomach.

♦ The beach at Sandbanks - under 2 hours from London is a beautiful stretch of sandy beach, you could almost be on the French Riviera. After a day soaking up the rays head to Café Shore for dinner with a view and to avoid the traffic exodus back to London from nearby Bournemouth.

♦ The number for Great Fosters Hotel in Surrey – for a fab romantic break, used to be a royal hunting lodge and has been around since 1550.

♦ Quote 'Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out' by Robert Collier.

♦ To plug the best semi-permanent eye-lash extensions ever at every given opportunity, by my team member Jane: kristinagasperas.com/semi-permanent-eyelashes/ they really are very very good.
