Evelina Puzaite {classical pianist, composer, writer}

Monday 18th May, 2015

Lithuanian-born pianist Evelina Puzaite is an internationally recognised performer of natural sensitivity and strong charisma. “I am working very hard to achieve my goals: to inspire an audience, to be a good mum, to teach my students”, she says. “If you create something nice – even if it’s a simple thing, the life around us becomes more beautiful. I want to feel good and I want others to feel good around me”.

Best piece of advice I've ever received

Not to treat life as a rehearsal.

Eating out

I like going to local restaurant in Dulwich - Belair House and enjoy visiting Lombok restaurant (Thai cuisine) in Herne Hill.

Most romantic moment

A marriage proposal in New York on Christmas day surrounded by a blizzard and getting married in ancient Villa Giulia in Italy, Fano.

Best for a first date

Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. The atmosphere and music are great there.

Best compliment I've ever been given

How incredible it is to meet someone so dedicated to be the best at what they do.

Favourite London club

Cubana near Waterloo.

Most wonderful London discovery

The Horniman Museum and Forest Hill park. Beautiful grounds, museum, aquarium and interesting exhibitions. Everything for a wonderful day out.

On the bookshelf

Boris Akunin, Cemetery Stories. He has chosen six famous cemeteries all over the world and wrote an intriguing stories about each of them. Very unexpected! It’s difficult these days to find anything unexpected. Also I’m a big fan of Chekhov’s short stories.

Movies I like

Shirley Valentine; Midnight in Paris (by Woody Allen, all his movies are magic); Bridget Jones’s Diary (who doesn’t love it?)

I have long term love – which is Arvo Part and Peteris Vask’s music.

Perfect time out

Having friends around, nice music, good food cooked by my husband. What can be better?

I’d go out to dinner with

Lithuanian painter, composer and writer M.K.Ciurlionis. He is absolutely extraordinary! I named my son after him – Konstantinas. I also would like to invite Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, so that I could thank them for their superb music.

To an afternoon tea I’d like to invite

V.Urmana-Urmanaviciute - she is charming and amazing in every way. I watched her interview and I was impressed by her warmth, intelligence, energy and her extraordinary talent. Where? When the person is amazing where to go – it doesn’t matter. You can sit on a bench in the middle of a field and talk.

Guilty pleasures

Fruit pastilles and Netflix.

Euphoria by Calvin Klein.

As a Mayor of London

I would build a new concert hall and ask Evelina Puzaite to open it. Preferably under Simon Rattle’s baton :-) If in all seriousness – I like this town and it means that the mayor of London is doing a great job and I don’t need to change my profession. I’m going to New York from July and I feel sad to leave (although only for few years) this is a charming and intriguing city.

Stay inspired, positive, help others, don’t blame anyone and aim high. And good luck!

I would like to invite everyone to my last performance in London before moving to New York, at Cadogan Hall, Sloane square, on the 9th of April 2015. This concert is going to be in aid of prostate cancer and everyone who want to have a good evening and to help others – this is one of a perfect ways to do that. The programme includes 3 piano concertos with an orchestra and one world premier. More information and tickets: http://www.cadoganhall.com/event/charity-piano-concerto-concert-150409/
